The first week after chicks arrive is the most critical period for survival. Brooder temperature should start at 32–34°C and step down by about 2–3°C per week.
Watch chick behaviour, not just the thermometer
Chicks huddling together means they are cold; chicks spread far from the heat source means it is too warm. Even spreading across the brooder is the sign you want.
Clean water from hour one
Add clean, room-temperature water immediately on arrival, with a mild electrolyte solution to help with transit stress.
