Feed Conversion Ratio: What Every Farmer Should Track

FCR is the single number that tells you if your feeding programme is actually working. Here is how to calculate and improve it.

Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) is simply the amount of feed used divided by the weight gained. A lower FCR means more efficient growth.

How to calculate it

Track total feed consumed and total live weight gained over the same period, then divide feed by weight gain.

What affects FCR

Feed quality, water access, temperature stress, and disease all move the number — often before a farmer notices anything visually.
